The Owen Fracture Zone is a transform boundary between the Indo-Australian and Arabian plates. It is completely submerged and in the ocean. The Owen Fracture Zone is very unknown because it is small. However, it does cause several earthquakes that are recorded throughout and the earthquakes minority affect cities nearby. However, because it is submerged not many cities are not nearby. The Owen Fracture Zone is void of resources. However the ocean around it has several resources for humans.
The Owen Fracture Zone is a transform boundary. Transform is caused when the plates convection cells (these form when heat conducts through the inner core, then convects through the outer core, then it conducts through the mesosphere, then it can starts convection in the the asthenosphere) move so they plates grind against each other (↑|↓). The Owen Fracture Zone is a deformation of the Earth's crust. As the Indo-Australian and Arabian plates rub up against each other the Earth's crust cracks and deforms. The Owen Fracture Zone mainly creates earthquakes, which are a result of the friction occurring as the two plates grind up against each other. Think about rubbing two cookies together. Due to the friction the cookies will resist movement and will begin to crumble and crack. Although the Earth's crust will not fall into pieces it does crack and crumble at the transform boundaries. Just like the cookies, the Earth's crust will resist movement, and when it finally gives way an earthquake will happen.
On the opposite side of the Arabian Plate is the Jordan Structure Transform Fault System. Both of these features are caused by the Arabian plate. Without each other they could not exist and neither could any of the other plate features. If the plate was not allowed to slide against other plates it would be locked in place and could not diverge or converge. The Jordan Structure and and the Owen Fracture Zone both rub up against other continents in the same direction. This causes the breakup of crust and crack in the crust. The Owen Fracture is special because it is connected to a longer line of other transforms that all help the Indo-Australian plate move.
